The way the game is viewed has changed. The world cup argument is becoming an outdated concept. It used to hold more importance in determining the greatest because it was the only real football that was shown worldwide at the time of Pele and Maradona. The respective top leagues and the European cup aka the CL was not followed by a worldwide viewing audience like it is now. Club football now holds even more importance, which is why people recognise Messi's greatness has been proven over what he's shown and achieved as a player throughout his career. Lots of players have won world cups, yet very few have played to the level Messi has, let alone have done that for 15 years. That's why some huge names in football believe Messi is the greatest. Needless to say, they are well qualified to judge.
Yes he is, but beating these teams is easier said than done. Croatia is gonna be tough. Their midfield is excellent, so is their defense. I just think its their to lose.

It seems harsh but I'm afraid even if he does win it , cr7s international career is still far superior. First of all goal to game ratio is significantly better. Secondly he's far less reliant on penalties . Out of 118, 17 have come from pens. For leo out of 95, 22 have come from pens. Thirdly cr7 does it where it counts in competitive matches. Out of his 118, 98 are competitive goals. For Leo's 95, 52 are competitive. Not to mention cr7s got a far better ratio in competitive matches obviously. Fourthly, while atm Portugal without cr7 is better than Argentina without Leo, from 2007-2019 Leo had a much better supporting cast than cr7 did. Fifthly cr7 has had great individual performances and scored goals against Europe's best teams. Spain in 2018, Holland in 2012, Sweden in 2013, Switzerland in 2019, even Germany in 2021 in spite of the fact they lost that game. Leo's scored against good teams in friendlies. In competitive not so much. Never scored a competitive goal against Brazil. He scored against Holland but that was a pen. He's never had a performance like that or even scored a non penalty goal against teams that good in competitive situations.

First of all there's no Greatest of All Times. Time is endless. A hundred years from now, young people will not be talking about Messi or Ronaldo. Two hundred yrs from now, football players will astound people living in that time, while we who are living now will not even be remembered. Which of us know who were the greatest players in the 1920's? Even with the technologies now a hundred yrs from now the images will look poor to people living in those times. The accurate statement is "such and such is the best attacking or defensive players or the most complete player I've seen so far. " In my humble opinion Pele is the most complete player I've seen so far. I like Messi but he's not the best I've seen so far, he's one of the best.

How do they do in terms of goals and assists? Do they make a difference on their team? Do they dribble well? Do they have good playmaking skills? How are their individual accomplishments?
